2027 BFA AHT, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL.
Born in 2004 in St. Louis, Missouri, Brigid O'Neill moved to Chicago when she was 18 to attend Columbia College Chicago in the fall of 2022. Brigid is a multidisciplinary artist who recently transferred from Columbia College Chicago to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2024. She works primarily in graphite and vintage Playboy magazines, creating detailed drawings and provocative collage pieces that interrogate representations of gender, identity, and power in visual culture. Her practice also occasionally extends into fiber-based media and is continually informed by her engagement with sculpture, a field she explores through coursework at SAIC.
Brigid’s graphite drawings focus on the nuances of the human figure, rendered with technical precision and emotional depth. In contrast, her collage work reclaims mid-century print materials, particularly advertisements and pop culture ephemera, to deconstruct the language of consumerism and challenge societal norms around femininity and sexuality.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an Art History Thesis, Brigid creating a strong academic view to her creative work. Her interest in art history not only informs her studio practice but also shapes her long-term goals. She plans to pursue a Master of Science in Conservation and Restoration, aiming to combine her love of historical research with preservation work. In the meantime, she is actively exploring a range of materials, subjects, and techniques that reflect the kinds of objects and artworks she hopes to one day conserve.
